Sushi
Fish is halal, but sushi rice and sauces commonly use mirin or sake (rice wine).
Why?
Sushi itself — rice, seaweed, and fish — poses no issue since fish is halal. However, sushi rice is traditionally seasoned with rice vinegar that sometimes includes mirin (a sweet rice wine), and sauces like teriyaki or unagi sauce often use mirin or sake directly. Some restaurants and packaged sushi use alcohol-free substitutes — ask or check ingredients if this matters to you.
