Halal

A flavor-enhancing amino acid, typically produced by fermentation; halal.

Why?

Glutamic acid is the amino acid used to produce MSG (monosodium glutamate) and is itself used as a flavor enhancer. It is commonly produced by fermenting plant-based sugars (e.g. from corn or sugar beets) with bacteria, and is considered halal.
