E330

Also known as: Citric Acid

Halal

Produced by fermenting sugars with mold or found naturally in citrus fruit — halal.

Why?

Citric acid (E330) is a common preservative and flavor enhancer, produced today almost entirely through mold fermentation (typically Aspergillus niger) of sugar, or extracted naturally from citrus fruit. Neither production method involves animal products or alcohol, making it halal.

Good to know

One of the most common food additives; no notable halal concerns.
