E322

Also known as: Soy Lecithin, Lecithin (soy)

Halal

A plant-derived emulsifier from soybeans — halal.

Why?

Lecithin (E322), when sourced from soybeans as is most common, is a plant-derived emulsifier with no animal involvement, making it halal. Egg-derived lecithin also exists and is halal as well, since eggs are permissible.

Good to know

Plain 'lecithin' without a stated source is almost always soy-derived in practice, but confirm on the label if certainty is needed.
