Sodium Benzoate
Also known as: E211
A common synthetic preservative in soft drinks and condiments; halal.
Why?
Sodium benzoate is manufactured synthetically (or from benzoic acid found naturally in some berries) and used to inhibit bacteria, yeast, and mold in acidic foods like soda, pickles, and salad dressing. It contains no animal or alcohol-derived components.
