Halal

Made by heating sugars — halal, with no animal or alcohol involvement in standard production.

Why?

Caramel color (E150, in its various sub-types E150a–E150d) is produced by controlled heat treatment of carbohydrates such as sugar, glucose, or molasses. Standard commercial production does not involve animal products or alcohol, making it halal.

Good to know

Very common in colas, sauces, and baked goods.
