Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
Also known as: E101
A yellow B-vitamin used as a food color and fortifier; halal.
Why?
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is produced today mostly by industrial fermentation using bacteria or fungi, replacing older animal-liver-extraction methods. As a fermentation-derived vitamin, it is considered halal by nearly all certification bodies.
Good to know
Older extraction from animal liver is essentially obsolete in commercial production.
